The Each To His/Her Own show

July 24th, 2007 | by Robert Fletcher |

Back in another time (and quite possibly another life) I was involved with a show called E.T.H.O.S. on 6UVS-FM and RTR FM 92.1.

My dear friend Leo Zaza recently came across some old photos of “the crew” hard at work and made a lovely little montage to some audio from the show.

Ahhh truly a simpler more innocent time. I was just a teenager secretly staying up late for ETHOS every Thursday night, frustrated from phoning in for the pastors latest charity appeal as the house telephone, a beige wall mounted rotary dial model, was outside mothers bedroom. No mobile phones or…

Wow, that takes me back! I was about 16 when I happened across the dial on RTR late one night and I was utterly bowled by the off-the-wall humour, interspersed with plenty of musical retro kitsch. The weekly adventures of Wanda June Honeywell, Dr. Lesbia Brazil, Pastor J. O’Brien, Mother Mary Immaculata and The Contessa were compulsory listening for me until just over a year later in November ’92, when ETHOS concluded, closing down ETHOcorp: where else could I go to furnish myself with such necessary requisites for the home, such as egg coddlers?

Anyway, good luck in all your pursuits Bobby and thanks for the fun you and your ETHOS cohorts sent over the airwaves many years ago, in the process opening my eyes to GLBTI issues.

    Cheerio, John

PS: Do you have any tape sales of that program?

380 2980. I have to think hard about how old I am but I can still reel off the ETHO Show’s phone in number. How bizarre. I was just listening to the Moir Sisters and decided to plug the ETHO Show into Google and see if anything came up. Lo and behold! I dearly miss ETHOS and the gravelly voice and rapier wit of Dr Lesbia especially. I have one recording that has survived all these years. It was the episode where you guys had Robin Greenburg strapped to an Orgasmatron.

Hillman Hunters, Skoda Octavias, The Perth Bird Lady, Mandingo, the lovely Godfrey, Wanda Vision, Janet Mead, the exercise lady and of course the Moir Sisters. Those were the days.

If there was some way to buy recordings of the show I would definitely be interested as I’m no longer a broke and pimply teenager but a filthy rich alcoholic.

Well, thanks for the memories and I’m serious about purchasing copies of the shows. Please get in touch if it’s possible!

Love and milky white love ropes

Best wishes to you all. I was a teenager too, calling and listening and even visiting sometimes. You were so accommodating and kind to me. I’m still grateful. And I sing “good morning, how are you, it’s nice to see your face” to my kids!
